Signing in with Google gives Comidos your email address and a user ID, via Google Cloud Firebase. Scanned barcodes and generated reports are stored so they can be shown to you again, and are not shared with other users. Where Open Food Facts data is incomplete, barcode and product details are sent to Google's Gemini AI service to generate or supplement report content, via Google's paid Gemini API tier, under which Google does not use submitted data to train its models. Comidos does not send your email, user ID, or any other personal account information to Gemini -- only the product data needed to complete the report. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Account Status (Right to be Forgotten). Comidos does not analyze personal dietary preferences or track health habits.
Our service requires active access to your device's physical camera to scan barcodes. The camera feed is used only to detect and decode a barcode on-device; no photo or video is stored, saved, or transmitted anywhere. Only the decoded barcode number itself is sent to our servers to look up the product.
Product data is sourced from Open Food Facts and used in compliance with its Open Database License (ODbL), which requires attribution of data origins and acknowledgment of the Open Food Facts contributor community.
Overall Score (0–100). Where AI-assisted calculation is available, your Overall Score is based on three factors: the product's nutritional quality (calories, sugar, salt, saturated fat, protein, and fiber), the presence and risk level of food additives, and whether the product is certified organic. Products with a poor official nutrition grade, or containing an additive considered high-risk by recognized food safety bodies, are automatically capped at a maximum score of 49, regardless of other factors. When AI-assisted calculation isn't available, we calculate your score using a simpler formula based on protein, fiber, sugar, sodium, and trans fat content. Nutri-Score, NOVA Group, and Eco-Score. These are official European grading systems. Where available, we use the grade published by Open Food Facts, an independent, crowd-sourced food database. When that data isn't available for a product, our AI estimates the grade using the same published methodologies.
Free accounts receive a limited number of scans, with a 5-minute cool-down between each scan. Limits are enforced server-side. VIP accounts have unlimited scans, subject to a 30-scan daily cap to prevent abuse.
